In New Haven, shops are busiest on Monday mornings and before holiday weekends, so a mid-week appointment gets a car seen faster. Labor rates across Connecticut vary by neighborhood and by shop type, from small independents to dealership service bays, and mobile mechanics now cover many routine jobs in the driveway. Before authorizing a repair, ask for the estimate in writing, whether the shop warranties parts and labor (12 months / 12,000 miles is common, some offer more), and whether it can provide a loaner or a shuttle. Check the listing for hours, the makes the shop works on and its Google rating, then call ahead, since walk-in capacity is limited at smaller shops.

Hours are published for 5 days a week. Typical hours are 8 am–5 pm. It is closed on Saturday, Sunday. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (203) 909-6531. New Haven is in Connecticut, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Getting around New Haven is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across Connecticut's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

I want to express my sincere gratitude to Dave at Rick's Auto Center. I brought my car in for a diagnostic, and they quickly found the root of the problem. Dave provided excellent, honest advice regarding the repairs.Because it is an older car with multiple engine issues, the cost to fix it was more than I wanted to spend, so I decided against the repairs. Even though they didn't get a huge repair job out of me, they were incredibly gracious, professional, and fast. I truly appreciate their honesty and highly recommend them!

I've had nothing but great service at Rick's. Most recently, they helped me remove the ECU from my car. Instead of having to tow it back and forth, they let me keep the car there for a week while I had the ECU repaired, and then they put it back in for me. Prices are really reasonable and it never feels like they're trying to upsell you. Highly recommend!

It was a simple fix for my Jetta. But here is confirmation of this being a great shop! Rick gave me the remedy related to my fuse box that if it happened again, it’s something I can do myself to replace. Now if you’ve been dealing with shops outside of the dealership of your car, maybe some situations haven’t gone so good. That gesture of β€œhey you can do it yourself” if it does happen next time aka save your money is integrity and I appreciate Rick and his team for that. Book your appointment whoever is reading this. Great shop!!

After going to Rick's for a couple of times now, they honestly do great work and work with you to understand the needs for you car, without "creating problems" to fix. We have tried a few shops like this around town, liked them all but eventually felt like we weren't getting the maintenance our car needed. After seeing the reviews for Rick's and the classic Word of Mouth about them, we decided to check them out this year. We are very happy with their customer service and maintenance on our car as well.

I'll give him this: Rick is an "honest" mechanic in the sense that he won't invent problems with your car. But he seems to be cashing in (literally) on that reputation for honesty. He charged me $200 for an oil change and cabin air filter replacement. He also correctly recommended that I needed two new tires, and wanted to charge $270 (!!!) for the replacements. I know costs have gone up in recent years, but those prices are way above market and even more expensive than some dealerships. If money isn't an issue for you, by all means, go to Rick's, secure in the knowledge that you won't be paying for unnecessary services. But if you live in the real world, I'd go somewhere else.
